Terartai and Shop at Macan, Museum MACAN are proud to introduce an exclusive merchandise collection that celebrates the power of art to spark conversation and create opportunities for underserved communities.
Launched alongside Museum MACAN's newest exhibition ‘Menelan Cakrawala’, the collection features a series of bags and notebooks showcasing artwork co-created by artists from Terartai's community of artists with special-needs. Through this collaboration, original artworks are transformed into functional, everyday objects that allow visitors to bring a piece of creativity home while supporting a broader mission of inclusion.
Creating Space for Every Artist
As Indonesia's leading museum of modern and contemporary art, Museum MACAN has long been committed to making art accessible to diverse audiences. This commitment extends beyond visitors and into the creative ecosystem itself, creating opportunities for artists from different backgrounds and experiences to meaningfully contribute into their art ecosystem.
Through this collaboration with Terartai, Shop at Macan seeks to highlight the importance of recognizing artists with special needs as valuable contributors to Indonesia's creative community. By providing a platform for their work to be recognised and appreciated. This collaboration reinforces the idea that everyone has a gift, and artistic talent deserves equal chance to flourish.

Art with purpose
The collection was developed in collaboration with Terartai, a social enterprise that collaborates with artists with special needs to create meaningful products and opportunities. For many of the artists, particularly those who are autistic or non-verbal, art serves as a powerful medium for self-expression. Through their artworks, they are able to share their stories and emotions in ways that may not always be possible through spoken language.
Through a process of co-creation, these original artworks are thoughtfully translated into merchandise while preserving the essence of each artist's creative voice, allowing their stories to reach a wider audience.
Among the featured artists are Joshua Hans and Jeffrey Oentoro, whose artworks are featured throughout the collection. Their distinct creative perspectives are woven into the bags and notebooks, transforming original artworks into pieces that visitors can engage with beyond the walls of the exhibition.

Extending the Impact of Art
For Museum MACAN, this initiative reflects a broader vision of how art institutions can foster inclusion and create meaningful connections. By collaborating with social enterprise such as Terartai, the museum hopes to encourage greater awareness of the talents and contributions of artists with special needs while expanding opportunities for participation in the creative economy.
For Terartai, the collaboration demonstrates how partnerships with leading cultural institutions can help create sustainable income opportunities and greater recognition for artists who have historically been underrepresented.
Together, Museum MACAN and Terartai believe that art has the power to build a more inclusive future, one where every artist has the opportunity to be seen, valued, and celebrated.
